Child Protection Policy

(The club child protection policy is based on and supplementary to the FA Child Protection Procedures and Practices Handbook in which full guidelines are laid out and which will be deemed the club final policy document).

nb. The guidance below should be regarded as supplementary to, rather than in place of, any legal and Procedural Frameworks laid out by Government or the National or County Football Associations.

We ask that as an adult involved with the club, you assist us by complying with the Child Protection Policy, Club Codes of Conduct, and our own Club Constitution. This is the responsibility of every adult within the club.

The Club Child Protection Officer (CPO) is:

Mrs Joy Marriot-Cross

The policy of this club is to ensure that any person under the age of 18 who participates in activities organised by the club should be able to take part in an enjoyable and safe environment and be protected from abuse.

The welfare of each child should be protected from physical, emotional or sexual harm and from neglect or bullying.

1. Immediate action to be taken by you if a child tells you directly that they are concerned about someone’s behaviour towards them;
  • Reassure the child by reacting calmly, telling them that they are not to blame and by taking seriously what they say.
  • Ensure the immediate physical safety of the young person if necessary, by calling for medical assistance or referral where appropriate or needed.
  • Do not question the child more than the absolute minimum necessary in order to gain a clear understanding of what the child has SAID. (Do not attempt to gain more information than they have volunteered unless absolutely necessary – furthermore, asking leading questions to a child may result in disproportional responses from either yourself or others and false allegations should clearly be avoided for the benefit of all concerned).
  • Do not promise confidentiality
  • Do not promise resolution of the problem
  • Do not promise on an outcome to the problem
  • Parents/carers should be contacted only after advice from Social Services.
  • Make a full record of what has been said, heard or seen as soon as possible.
  • Report your concerns to the person in charge (unless inappropriate) or to the CPO. In the absence of the CPO, Contact a senior official of the club who will contact the CPO on your behalf. The CPO will then advise in accordance with this policy and FA guidelines and report the matter. In the absence of any of the above, report your concerns directly to either the police or the Social Services. You should also inform the FA Head of Education and Child Protection, or the FA Child Protection Administrator on
01952 602301
  • Discussion of the matter should be kept to a ‘need to know’ basis.
2. Action to be taken by you if you become aware through observations (either yours or a third party) of possible abuse occurring within a club setting;
  • Ensure the immediate physical safety of the young person if necessary, by calling for medical assistance or referral where appropriate or needed.
  • Make a full record of what has been said, heard or seen as soon as possible
  • Report your concerns to the person in charge (unless inappropriate) or to the CPO. In the absence of the CPO, Contact a senior official of the club who will contact the CPO on your behalf. The CPO will then advise in accordance with this policy and FA guidelines and report the matter. In the absence of any of the above, report your concerns directly to either the police or the Social Services. You should also inform the FA Head of Education and Child Protection, or the FA Child Protection Administrator on

3. Action to be taken in the event of information, suspicions or concerns;
  • Report your concerns to the club CPO.

In the event of any of the above, the CPO will respond in accordance with his/her FA child protection training and current FA guidelines.

Non action is not an option in child protection matters
