ABILITY COUNTS TEAM

Ability Counts Team

Sunday 2nd October 2005

After months of training, we had our first fixture in the South West Regional Ability Counts Championship League held at St Mary's School, Shaftesbury on Sunday 2nd October 2005.

We played 3 games during the day. After loosing the first two games we started to get it together and the third game we won 4 - 3.

These were difficult games, playing teams who had been together for years. The main thing is the lads showed good team spirit and had a really good time. The team is made up of adults not only from the Purbeck Centre but from Wool, Bournemouth and Poole. They all have a learning disability.

We meet up at The Purbeck Sports Centre every Monday evening at 6 pm to train until 7pm. Then every month we go to a different venue to play in the South West Regional Ability Counts Championship League. These venues will take us as far as: Devon, Gloucester, Somerset and many more places around the South.

Report: Phil

We played our first competitive match against Honizon Hotshots and lost 2-0, but Justin made some greats save (G.K) and they played fairly well as a team. The second match we played was against Plymouth Argyle. We had an outstanding 1st half and deserved to get our 1st league goal scored by Scott by a lovely cross by Ashley. We looked like a football team working well together, but unfortunely in the second half the lads became tried and lost concentration and conceded 4 goals, losing 5-1.

The third and final game we played was against Team Stars. We played outstanding football and came from being 2-1 down to win 4-3 with goals from Ashley, Nick and winning goal was scored by Andy. A thrilling match to watch and I was so proud of the lads for giving 100% effort in all the games they played.

“ All the players throughly enjoyed themselves and looking forward to the next exciting tourament in glocestershire on 6th November ”
